Food Safety

SMELL THE FOOD!!! If it smells off, go with your gut.

Meat Safety

Meat requires extra caution since it is very easy for it to spoil. Generally, avoid meat that has not been thoroughly cooked. Meat must be stored in a fridge or ice box and should never be left out for an extended period of time.

Dairy safety

Remember Rule #1, smell the food. Dairy will give off a strong smell when it is no longer good to eat. If you do have spoiled milk and have a garden, pour it onto your plants. Calcium can help the soil.

Water Safety

Avoid drinking from sprinklers, water features, and decorative fountains - this is “gray water” that has been recycled and is only meant for plants. These fountains are often treated with bleach and other chemicals that can cause stomach pain and sickness.

Eggs (yolk)

Eggs are a healthy source of protein. However, there are a few things to watch out for:

  • Eggs should be kept in a refrigerator or icebox.

  • Never eat a raw egg. You may get salmonella, a stomach infection that can cause diarrhea and fever.

  • Foods with fresh egg in them should not be left out and instead kept in a refrigerator or icebox.
